I am in the market for a car for the first time in years. I have been without because where I live and work I haven’t needed one. My city has awesome public transportation so I was taking a bus to get to work and back and either another bus or the subway to get around on my time off. When I wanted to go somewhere outside of the city I would either go with a friend or worst case get a rental. Next month I am starting a new job and there is no public transportation to get there because it is out in the suburbs. I never wanted to work that far away but there was no way I was going to turn this offer down. I am almost doubling my salary so it was a no-brainer.
As far as what I want I only have two requirements. I want it to get good gas mileage and I want it to be reliable. Besides that I don’t really care as long as it isn’t too gawky or whatever. I will get some cheap auto insurance on it too because besides driving to work I doubt I’ll drive it much. It will be pretty weird to be the owner of a vehicle again but in a good way. One more thing I forgot to add is that I want an automatic. I can drive a stick shift but don’t prefer them. The route I’m going to take on my commute will have a lot of stop and go traffic too so the last thing I want is to be dealing with the gears like that. With that being said if I find one that the price is too good to turn down I’ll bite the bullet and get it.
I am going to take my friend Carl with me when I go shopping for one because he is a master haggler with the sales people. We are going to pretend that he is my older brother not that it makes much of a difference. He just thinks that will come off better so that is what we are going to do. I told him that if he gets me a good deal I will take him out to a nice dinner and he said that sounded good. I think he actually enjoys doing it though so it isn’t like he needed any incentive.
